In plain language

Use Demysti5 to check and improve your online safety. The free features are free; the paid Pro features cost what's on our pricing page. Your Cyber Health score is a helpful guide, not a guarantee you'll never be hacked. Be respectful in the Community. Don't try to break the app or resell it. Standard stuff.

1. About these terms

  • Welcome to demysti5.com (the "Website") and the Demysti5 app. Together they provide the personal online-safety services described below (the "Services").
  • The Website and Services are operated by Demysti5. By using, browsing, or reading the Website or app, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you don't agree, please stop using the Website, app, or Services.
  • We may update these Terms from time to time by publishing a new version on this page. Changes take effect from the date they're published. We recommend keeping a copy of the Terms for your records.
  • Anywhere we say "Website", we also mean the Demysti5 mobile app, available on Google Play and (soon) the Apple App Store.

2. Our services

  • Cyber Health Score: a score based on your answers during onboarding and your ongoing activity, giving you an indication of the risks and threats you might encounter online.
  • Identity Risk: based on a scan of publicly known data leaks, which depends on outside services, to check whether the email address you registered with was exposed in a known breach.
  • Device Security: tasks and guidance to help you secure the devices you use.
  • Secure Habits: recurring habits designed to change your online behaviour over time.
  • Rewards: in-app badges and rewards for completing tasks or actions.
  • Improve: a personalised plan of tasks, instructional guides, and tool recommendations to strengthen your security. Even once a task is complete, it may not fully protect you, since guidance is based on general principles. We're not responsible for faults in any third-party tool we recommend; contact the tool's own vendor for support with it.
  • Advice: general guidance to help prevent and recover from cyber incidents. Some sections depend on third-party services. This guidance is general in nature and may not suit every situation; use your own judgement.
  • Community: a place to post about threats, scams, fake news, or questions. Posts that need it are checked by a real security expert and by our AI.
  • Scam Spotter: a daily feature where you try to spot a scam, curated by our security team from real cases.
  • Intel Alerts: alerts about the scams currently targeting people like you, in your area, along with badges and certificates for engagement.

These features are based on the information you provide and, in some cases, third-party services. They're intended to help and educate. They're not a guarantee of security and shouldn't be the sole basis for any decision.

3. Accepting these terms

You accept these Terms by using the Website or app, or by clicking to accept them where that option is offered.

4. Free and paid features

  • Demysti5 offers both free and paid (Pro) features. Paid features cost what's shown on our pricing page. Payment is processed by Stripe, a third-party payment processor; by paying for a Pro subscription, you also agree to Stripe's own terms and privacy policy.
  • A Pro subscription renews automatically each month until cancelled.
  • By subscribing, you confirm it's your responsibility to make sure the subscription you choose suits your needs.
  • To use the Services, you'll need to register an account, which may require basic information like your email address and name. You confirm that any information you give us is accurate and up to date.
  • You may not use the Services if you're not legally able to enter a binding contract, or if you're barred from receiving the Services under Australian law or the law of the country you're in.

5. Your responsibilities

As a Demysti5 user, you agree to:

  • use the Services only for purposes permitted by these Terms and by applicable law;
  • keep your password and account details confidential; you're responsible for anything that happens through your account, and using someone else's password or account is strictly prohibited;
  • let us know immediately if you become aware of any unauthorised use of your account or a security breach;
  • use the Website and app for your own personal use, not to resell or provide as a commercial service to others without our written permission;
  • not use the Services for anything illegal, including harvesting other users' contact details, or unauthorised framing of or linking to the Website; and
  • not attempt any automated or bulk use of the Website or Services.

If you offer a similar cyber-safety service to others for commercial gain, you're a competitor of Demysti5 and may not use or access the content of our app or website for that purpose.

6. Payment

  • All payments are processed through Stripe. By making a payment, you confirm you've read and agree to Stripe's terms and conditions.
  • If a payment is declined or returned by your bank for any reason, you're responsible for any resulting fees or charges.
  • We may change the Pro subscription price from time to time; any change takes effect from your next billing period.

7. Refunds

Nothing in this section limits any consumer guarantee you have under the Australian Consumer Law that can't be excluded.

Beyond that, we'll refund your subscription fee if we're unable to keep providing the Services, or where we decide, acting reasonably, that a refund is fair in the circumstances. Where we do refund you, it'll be the proportional, unused part of your subscription fee.

8. Copyright and intellectual property

  • The Website, the Services, and all related material are protected by copyright under Australian law and international treaties. All rights not expressly granted to you are reserved by Demysti5.
  • We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, revocable licence to use the Website and app as intended by these Terms, including installing and using the mobile app on your own devices, and printing pages for your own personal, non-commercial use.
  • You may not copy, reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the app or website, except where the law specifically allows it.
  • Our "Improve" framework and related materials are proprietary to Demysti5. Please don't reproduce, redistribute, or commercially exploit them, or share them outside your own use without our written consent.

9. Privacy

Any personal information you give us through the Website or app is handled in line with our Privacy Policy.

10. Website content and use at your own risk

We've taken care preparing the information on this site, but we don't promise it's accurate, complete, or suitable for every purpose. To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for losses arising from information on the site being inaccurate or incomplete.

The site may link to other websites we don't control. We're not responsible for their content, accuracy, or privacy practices, and linking to them doesn't mean we endorse them.

If you use our mobile app through the Apple App Store or Google Play, the relevant store's own terms of service also apply, and that store has no obligation to provide support or maintenance for the app.

11. Limitation of liability

  • Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes any consumer guarantee under the Australian Consumer Law that can't lawfully be excluded.
  • Beyond that, and to the extent the law allows, our total liability arising out of these Terms or the Services won't exceed the amount you paid us for the Services in the 12 months before the claim.
  • We can't guarantee your safety online. What we can do is help reduce your risk. Using Demysti5 doesn't mean you won't be hacked or scammed.
  • Some of our guidance asks you to enable security features on other apps or services. We're not responsible for how those third-party features perform; issues with them should go to the vendor of that app or service.
  • We may recommend third-party tools that require their own separate payment. We're not responsible for the cost, performance, or availability of those tools; that's between you and the vendor.
  • Demysti5 is intended for personal use by individuals aged 18 or over (or with the consent and supervision of a parent or guardian if under 18).

12. Ending your account

  • You can stop using Demysti5 at any time by not renewing your subscription and closing your account.
  • We may suspend or end your account if you breach these Terms, if we're required to by law, or if continuing to provide the Services to you is no longer reasonably viable for us. Where possible, we'll try to give you notice first.

13. Indemnity

You agree to cover us for any loss, cost, or claim that comes from your content, your misuse of the Website or Services, or your breach of these Terms, to the extent the law allows.

14. Resolving a dispute

If a dispute comes up, please contact us first at [email protected] so we can try to sort it out directly. Most things can be resolved this way.

If we can't resolve it between us, the dispute will be handled by the courts of Victoria, Australia, which is also the law that governs these Terms.

15. If part of these terms doesn't apply

If any part of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable by a court, that part is removed and the rest of the Terms continue to apply.
